Smooth Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Quick question for everyone, I am chasing a cost effective humidor as I have simply run out of room! (I seem to buy ALOT more cigars than I smoke, funny that). Basically I just need something that will hold 2-3 boxes I currently want to purchase but have nowhere to store. Nothing fancy as it wont be on display. I want to spend next to nothing, $100us or so. Have a spare humidifier and digital hygrometer so it doesnt need to come with one. Any help would be much appreciated.

Or if you want a cooled option go for an inexpensive wine cooler.
Colt45 Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 I concur with a cooler - they are very good for maintaining a consistent climate.

Here in Australia, when I think igloo cooler I think esky... is this what your talking about? Like a large plastic box usually reserved for storing beverages in a bed of ice? So I just whack the cigars, hygrometer and humidifier in an esky????? PS: Being australian, I own 3 varieties of esky and this option seems to easy to be true

You could also consider an airtight "tupperware" type container.

Hope it works, I've been bursting at the seams to buy a few more boxes. Even better I can hide the esky somewhere and Mrs Smooth will never know I bought more cigars Many Thanks for the help guys

I build my own with exoticx woods and they are very visible to the wife. I have made "deals" with her in the past like buying her a new car and **** so she will be satified and stay quiet but it never works.
tigger Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Smooth - Do an internet search on "coolerdor," and you'll find much advice on setting one up, mods that can be made, etc. And if you find coolers on sale, buy one more than you think you'll need, because you'll end up needing it. :-)
ccsmoker Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 there is a step by step video on utube check it out
jqmunro Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 I would also recommend searching around for a scratch and dent (imperfect) Medici (aka Havana Foot locker) for $100 that will hold about 10-12 boxes. It also looks half decent.
Moglman Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 You can get fancy, and line with cedar, install fans and a cigar oasis, build shelves, etc ... or do like me and buy the biggest coolers you can find (aired out), load it with boxes and beads and call it a day. Personally, I like the 150 qt Igloo MaxCold because of the extra insulation and the recessed lid. I have 4.
