El Presidente Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 From our friend deepthroat :-) _____________________________________________________ The code OSU Nov 2002 ( Sotto voce: made and packed in Partagás): Some jars weren’t delivered to Habanos on time but at the beginning of 2002. There were 10 000 units of Cohiba, 10 000 of Montecristo and 4 000 of Cuaba making 24 000 millenium jars to be commercialized. Some of them were rejected due to little imperfections with the lid or top. So more of them were aimed to replace the rejected ones through time. All cigars were made in 1999 however they were witheld until sufficient Jars were on hand to finalise the rollout which coincided with NOV 2002. Porcelanas Bidasoa, based in Spain www.porcelansabidasoa.es and they are in charge of the production of our ceramic jars, ashtrays and other things such as the bottle of Edmundo Dantés Rum. The company was founded in 1934 and since then has been acknowledged as one of the best producers worldwide. I noted the different Hologram sticker numbers. This is simply a human mistake at the time of packaging. Wrong Jar into wrong box. Upside down stickers etc are similarly just human error. Warranty seal numbers do not appear out of the ordinary. In reality some of the jars should have been red-flagged. However, It was perhaps a case of getting the last out no matter what (it was already late 2002) as no one had an appetite to commission more. I hope this helps you brother. __________________________________________________________
Colt45 Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 Though I don't have any of these jars, this type of information is invaluable. Thank you.
slb6r Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 » Thanks for the info. So, are there also 2002 Cohiba Millennium jars out there or was the jar rejection rate higher for the Montecristos?
Tom Bolivar Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Rob, thank you for getting to the bottom of that! Very nice piece of information! Could you or Deepthroat elaborate more why some jars should have been red-flaged and what red-flaged is? I assume it means that it should not have passed the quality control, but still, why did they not pass? Regards, Tom
El Presidente Posted May 11, 2007 Author Posted May 11, 2007 Tom Red Flag refers to quality control inspections: Wrong stickers Upside down stickers Blemishes on the jars (chips/smudges/poor allignment of graphics) Poor run of cardboard cartons (colour/ misallignment/ Font) Cigars: right bands (remember the troubles with wrong bands on cigars within some LE humidors). Incorrect numbering of LE Humidors. With the 2002 release of the Monte Jars some of these were overlooked simply for expediency. Our investigations have found that Jars with imperfections were typically found in Havana Retail Divans which leads me to believe that they exported the best of the best and retained for local sales the rest. It should be noted that plenty of flawless 2002 Monte Millenium releases were sold in Hvana Divans. It just seems curious that the four examples we have been provided with (smudged graphics on Jars/ stickers upside down etc) all came out of Havana and all out of the R&J Divan. I haven't seen anything similar with the Cohiba Millenium Release. The challenges experienced by Habanos sa appear to have been withthe Montecristo Millenium Release. Good to see confirmation that all cigars were rolled in 1999. I would have been concerned if this was not the case.
