Colt45 Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 The last of a few singles I received some time last year. Construction was very good. A medium colorado wrapper that was a little rough with no oils. Draw was excellent, smoke volume could have been a touch better - this one had the dreaded off center hole in the foot that ran the length of the cigar. Burn was good for a breezy day. Very little aroma cold. Pre-light draw was pure cedar. First puffs were cedar with some spicy sweet cream, which quickly vanished. For almost the duration, this one was dry, tannic cedar, with an overlay of fruit. It had a very dry finish. There were no nuances of flavor, and it did not change until into the final third, where it became straight forward tobacco with a heavy dose of black pepper. The wood and fruit were quite separated and discernible from each other, but in balance. Medium in body throughout. Overall, an enjoyable cigar, but just too dry and woody for my taste. I don't know that I would acquire more, but if you enjoy this profile, I'd recommend giving it a go.
El Presidente Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 Nice review Colt. The best I have tried of this Churchill were the 1996/1998 and 2001. At their best they are sweet cream and cedar works of art. They have struggled to get the blend right on these.
Colt45 Posted April 23, 2007 Author Posted April 23, 2007 » At their best they are sweet cream and cedar works of art. Exactly as this one started. I think that perhaps, if the wood and fruit elements had been less separated (more integrated), it would have made for a nicer, more harmonious smoke.
