Sat down this afternoon with Cigardawg and we both smoked a ’97 Boli PC. This petit corona has a dark tan wrapper that is slightly rumpled. Overall the construction is very good. Pre-light nose is barely discernable, with maybe just a hint of toasted tobacco. The draw at cold is medium with no flavors to speak of, although I detect a slight mustiness.

Upon lighting, the first draw reveals flavors of toasted tobacco, light coffee and earth. Smoke volume is excellent and the body is medium. The burn is razor sharp, and the ash is dark grey, noticeably striated, and peppered with resin specks.

The flavor from the onset is excellent, with grassy and burnt sugar nuances mingling with rich toasted tobacco and mellow wood flavors. At 1” inch, I detect a light mushroom flavor, followed by cedar and mint notes that mellow out the wood flavors. The smoke has a nice mellow mouth feel. The cigar really hits it stride at about the 2” mark with stronger sweet grassy notes balancing out richer earth and toasted tobacco flavors. The finish is long, with a lip smacking toasted nut sweetness. At times, I pick up hints of white pepper.

At the halfway mark, I discern a light sweet licorice aftertaste that marries very well with the taste of toasted nut and tobacco, but especially with the leather notes. At this point the smoke is becoming more rounded and mellow. Near the end of the second stage, richer leather notes come through and provide more backbone to the toasted tobacco flavor.

In the final third, the leather, earth and tobacco flavors become stronger and richer, but the smoke always maintains a sweet nutty, toasted tobacco signature. The smoke, aromatic from the beginning, takes on more of a nasal-clearing cedar zestiness that I find very appealing. Needless to say, I smoked this to the nub.
