Quint Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 I got this cigar gifted to me and have had it in my humi for about 6 months. Rh 65-68%. I actually forgot I had it until last night when I went scrounging around in my singles bin looking for something I haven't tried yet. Contruction: Beautifully contructed nice medium brown wrapper smooth and vein free with a well made cap. Cut cleanly and had medium resistance on prelight pull. Slight mild earthy tasting. The Experience: Lit quickly and cleanly. Very mild earthy tabacco taste. 5 minutes into the smoke I'm waiting for something to develope. I keep looking at the cigar thinking come on baby give me something. 15 minutes still a very mild earthy tabacco flavor no complexity no hints of anything. 45 mins. About 1/2 done. Starting to develope that cuban twang but maintains a very boring profile. Burn is fairly even ash is meduim firm. 1hr. Flavor getting a bit stronger still very one dimentional. Twang is still present, but starting to pick up a chemical tasting type of finish. 1hr 15 mins. Just plain blah. Developed into nothing. Hints of what I guess is ammonia. Snubbed it out at this point very disappointed. Absolutely hated this smoke so much so I will probably never turn this way again unless I stumble over a good one. Good thing I didn't do a blind purchase of these babies.
strayvector Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 I did a box split with a buddy for a box from 98 because I love the young ones so much and had the same opinion as you. Very smooth but lacking in flavor and complexity. You might want to give this one a try with less age on them thougn. I find them very enjoyable and flavorful when young, but boring and one dimensional with more than about 4 years of age. The same with the HdM DC.
Professor Twain Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 I have a box of 98s, they are sweet and rich beginning to end. NO-SU-SS-IV
El Presidente Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 » I have a box of 98s, they are sweet and rich beginning to end. NO-SU-SS-IV You have nailed it Professor. The 98's were the last great HDM Churchill. I will try and locate a 2006 next week to assess. I may have had 30 HDM Churchills of 99/00/01/02/03/05 and 05. There were examples from 01 and 03 which were good to very good but not exceptional as many of the 98's were.

I have boxes of both and the 98 are floral and fruit and the 01 are more like mushrooms and moss.
