smokum Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Curious as to opinions on what causes improper burn , especially tunneling type of burn. Is it being smoked too fast ? humidification ? Age ? Construction ?...how about a ragged burn ?

Age ? » Construction ?...how about a ragged burn ? It has been my experience that improper humidification is the #1 cause of burn & draw problems. (Smoking too quickly can do it as well, try to stick to the "1 minute" rule between draws) At what relative humidity level are you storing your smokes? Try "dry boxing" for a few days prior to your next few smokes and see if that does the trick. Hope this helps ~Mark
smokum Posted April 12, 2007 Author Posted April 12, 2007 I keep mine at +/- 65 % @ 65F. Doesn't happen to me all that often but when it does its just a bit of a pain. I don't smoke out in the wind so it's not that for me. I doubt if I wait 1 minute between draws though and that is for sure. I tend to smoke faster. I have a drybox too but dont always have the foresight to use it. I just want to grab one and smoke it when the opportunity presents.

The younger the cigar the more humidor time it needs to even out the moisture and oil distribution. Razor sharp burns IMHO seldom occur in cigars under 3 years of age.
