Professor Twain Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 I got a five pack of these cigars as a freebie from a vendor, and after letting them sit in my humidor for a couple of months, I decided to smoke one out of curiosity and to write a review. This is a machine made cigar, and the vitola is Universales (38 X 134). It comes in a nice little cardboard box that imitates the wood grain of a guitar top. After removing the cellophane, I noted a dull smell reminiscent of cardboard. The cigar came already clipped although I took a small snip out of habit. During the first few puffs, this cigar had a good draw, but rather odd taste. It was somewhat reminiscent of the olive taste that I have noticed in some aged Cuban machine made cigars, but had a harsh and unpleasant taste. I did not detect any of the redeeming spicy tastes that I have noted in other, higher quality machine made cigars (although I have generally smoked those with lots of age). By the halfway point I was ready to give up on this cigar. But I decided that take one for the team and to continue smoking it, in case some elusive flavor might appear to reward my persistence. The cigar did develop greater strength and did have a decent nicotine punch near the end, but there was no surprise ending. I eventually abandoned this one with about 1/3 of the cigar remaining. I was left with a bitter aftertaste that I will have to attack with mouthwash and a strong drink. I wouldn’t recommend these for purchase. If you have any, I suggest aging them for 10 or 15 years, maybe they will blossom over time. Or you might give them to your friends, especially friends who have a little payback coming. (I gave one each to several local buddies and made them each promise to smoke them and write reviews). I give this one smoke ring on the 1-6 scale (practically unfit for smoking). Worst Cuban I have smoked to date.

But for me personally, I just can't come to grips with this type of cigar. I understand it's place, but I get no pleasure from having a crappy clump of tobacco hanging off my lip.
El Presidente Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 Professor......give them away. There is no chance they will come good ....ever
fenian98 Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 I got a fiver of these for free also, and did a little reading up on them. I have not found a positive thing to be said yet.
Professor Twain Posted April 1, 2007 Author Posted April 1, 2007 Tampa1257 promised me that he would smoke the one that I gave him, and post a review. Can't wait! (Payback for the Cazadores that he had me do a blind review on).

Machine-made have a purpose as they can use the less suitable or off cut tobacco in production, but this brand get its leaf outside the prised Vuelta Abajo area......why???? Habanos can made a decent machine-made, therefore why sell anything that is not representative ????????? .....

I saw that Cigars-review.org currently shows an average rating of 8/10 for these cigars from two reviewers who thought that they were OK. I have added a summary of my review and a rating of 1 out of 10.
