shut the eyes of an elephant, make him move backwards and you just sit and wait to see what happens... multiply that by 1.000.000 and you will get what happens if one of those things has reverse.;-)

The Air Force

C-5 Galaxy, largest airplane in the free world.

I don't know if Russia qualifies as free but they make a much larger transport, the Anatov-124 and Anatov-225 both are larger than the C5A Galaxy. X

:surprised:

Very true...we also have a bigger one now I think. I would bet that the Captain was relieved of his duties until he gets a new ******* reamed.

Sure they had to call the Boy's in from Delaware! That's cause the tiny state of Delaware ROCKS! :ok: Sorry folks, just had to get that out of my system. I guess the Delaware Crew will need to light up a celebratory cigar for our service men & women down in Dover.

The C-5 used to be the largest aircraft, I believe the Air Force has a larger one now. I was in the Air Force when they started flying in the late 60's. I rode in one from the east coast of the US to a base near Tokyo, in Japan. Slept on a metal container all the way thanks to partying heavily in NY City!

An airevac medic, I was also on board for the Vietnam orphan airlift in 1974 from Saigon to San Francisco. We sent two C-5's and we lost one C-5. The wing actually cracked and fell off, killing all aboard. Tragic.

I flew in a couple of these a few years ago. It was weird going in the cargo bay and then having to go upstairs to sit down.

NORFOLK Naval Air Station Virginia -- One of the military's largest

transports got stuck at the end of a runway atop the I-564 overpass

for more than 16 hours. It was unable to turn around at the West end

of Chambers Field at the Norfolk Naval Station. The incident forced

the closing of the field to all but helicopter traffic and made for a

dramatic sight for hundreds of motorists passing beneath it during

morning rush hour.

"That thing's like a big building sitting there.'' said motorists.

The nose of the aircraft actually stuck out and OVER the Interstate!

The aircraft's nose was so far over the end of the ramp, the crew was

unable to see the runway where it was supposed to turn around so the

pilot simply had to leave it at the end of the runway. The Air Force

C-5 Galaxy, largest airplane in the free world, is almost as long as

a football field and as high as a six-story building.

Weighing 420 tons with a full load, it uses a system of 28 wheels to

distribute its weight. The aircraft had to wait for a specially made

tow bar trucked in from Dover, Delaware! When the tow bar arrived,

it was used to hook the C-5 to a tractor that then turned the

aircraft around. The plane was not damaged.
