My first experience with this cigar, six months or so ago, was less than stellar.

I found it to be rather bland. (I'm convinced this was due to travel/storage on

the trip I was on).

A second try today yielded a totally different result. Construction draw and burn

were all great. Core of cream and savory spice with overtones of berry fruit.

There was the sharpness of youth throughout, but the underlying flavors were

undeniable. If these get even better with time, I'm sold.

To borrow a Tampa-ism, I imagine these will be "off the hook"!

I have smoked several of these and have enjoyed every one of them. However, I am not "blown-away" by them as many are. I might just need to smoke more of them. Based on the corona gordas that I have smoked, I would prefer either a Juan Lopez Sel No. 1 or Punch SS#1 over the Mag 46.

Hmmmm, I like the part about smoke more of them.:-P

So many cigars, so little money......These a are a few rows down the list, but they're coming one of these days. Everytime I go to buy them, someone talks me into something else.....

I smoked a nice one in Nov. on a deer hunt and that raised my opinion of this cigar somewhat. I like the flavor when they draw for me. As to being the best of the Upmann family, the Tang #2 is the absolute top with the Tang Monarcha coming in second.

Had the chance to try another today - same batch as my last post - no

codes, but recent. Construction, wrapper, draw - all perfect.

The progression of this cigar, for me, has been such an eye opener.

I went back and re-read everyone's thoughts - you've all nailed it. This

has turned into one of the most complex cigars I've smoked.

It still showed very slight hints of youth now and then, but nothing

to take away from the overall experience. What a great cigar.

For those who haven't had much luck with this one,

it may be worth another shot.

The first time I tried a Mag46 I spent my inbetween puffin time just rolling it between my fingers and looking at it. This cigar was different than any other smoked. One descriptive term that just nailed it for me was "spiced wood". Like others before for awhile it was the cigar that I couldn't wait to get home to smoke. I have found some interbox variabilty but I'm keeping my eyes open for a box with 2-4 years behind it just to see if the spice would be more pronounced. Love them!

Very nice review! While not one of my favorite cigars I find them to be one of the most consistent Havana's. They always draw but also I tend to feel they have always been rolled a bit to the loose side.
