habanohal Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Well after purposly loseing to Rob in a game of poker last night, I went out for a cigar and took a 1982 Monte Especial to smoke. Very good medium flavors for such an old cigar. With that age , the only thing I noticed is a wine taste from which I havent tasted before with recent years. I must have a palate like a horse for last night ( Thurs) was a1982. Wednesday I had a 2005, and Tuesday , 1 from 2001. Out of the 3, the only way I would be able to tell the differance between the years is how "old or frail the cigar looked. FOr myself, there has only been less than a handful of marquees that I can tell the differance between recent vintage and 20 years old.. Go Figure:confused:

Are you saying you smoked three (3) Montecristo Especial No.1's this week? Confused. I love this cigar. Wonderful bean and espresso flavors. Nice cool smoke. Just a fantastic cigar. If these were all No.1's, how did you like the 2005's? 2001's? With the 1982 you mentioned that it had a winey taste to it. Were the vanilla beans present? How about the espresso/coffee flavors?
habanohal Posted December 2, 2006 Author Posted December 2, 2006 Yes,had 1 each night from differant years. Actually I prefer younger ones for they are a trifle stronger. All the Monte flavors were present. Reminded me of the best #2 that I have had in the past. With my decsribeing of flavors, you need to of smoked a few from the line up to understand what I compare too.
El Presidente Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 Nice work mate! I love a vertical tasting. There is a lot to be said about the much higher blend consistency of low production cigars and the Montecristo Especial # 1 certainly qualifies. And as for purposely loosing to me at Poker ...... :rotfl:
