brian1 Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 Something that I have heard mentioned from time to time is that there may be some commingling of cuban and non-cuban tabacky in our beloved cigars. Off course all the motivation in the world is there for the cuban Gov' to want to increase cigar production by ANY means possible and dont tell me all these EL and ER's and limited("not") humidors are not decreasing the supply of good raw material from the ordinary vitolas. Is there any truth to this and would the casual cigar smoker even care/notice? Prez? anyone?
Colt45 Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 I can't comment on the using of non-Cuban tobacco in Havanas, as it would be purely speculation. As for special releases taking away from normal production, our humble host has mentioned on a few occasions, that with the culling of low selling cigars, and that there is land that is currently not being used, that the quantity of tobacco available for normal production is not an issue. I'm sure others will be able to elaborate.
El Presidente Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 This is a myth brian perpetuated by some US retailers and cigar manufacturers who have a vested interest in tarnishing the name of the Habano cigar. 500,000,000 millon dollars was spent by Altadis to purchase 50% of Habanos s.a. WHat they really purchased was a % piece of a legend which is the Cuban Cigar. It will never be blended because the minute it is.....it is worth nothing.
