DocRKS Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Just rcvd this note from which I'm including the following exerpt- What he is talking about in the note came about as I was rumaging in the attic and found 3 humidors that I no longer use and sent some notes asking if some of the Soldiers we are helping to sponsor for the Holidays could use a 'real' humidor.... Here is one reply...what makes this even more remarkable is that they are allocated ONE wall locker for ALL of their personal possesions....and this outstanding young man has given 1/2 of it over to store his received cigars !! Now THAT is someone who loves and appreciates his smokes!: ************************************************* Sir, Our lines are back up again (they go down for about 3 days every time the Brigade takes a casualty and as I'm sure you know, we just lost our CSM. (Command Sgt. Major). Thanks for the offer to send me a real humidor over here. You'd be proud of the humi-locker I've created. I've taken half my wall locker, built a shelf, stacked all the boxes and bag inside, and keep 5-6 bottle caps with damp napkins inside it. I'm telling you - openning this thing every night to grab a few sticks is one of the best parts of my day. But, as for a humidor - right away I'd say yes, please. I've also converted a Pelican case (military uses these a lot because they're airtight, waterproof, and crush-proof) into a travel humidor - fits about 4-5 sticks and is perfect to throw in a bag on the way out the gate. We always make long stops at Sadaam's old Birthday Palace to pick up and rehearse missions with the Iraqi army. So my friends and I always grab a stick while we're searching for those lazy bastards, I mean, fine and outstanding Army that is almost ready to take control of it's country. So on the humidor - yes please. I would be more than happy to pay the shipping on it. Your friends have been amazing thus far and we all look forward to the rest that you say is coming. Can't wait... Take care there, and say hi to all on your Cigar Internet board. It really makes our day when a cigar package shows up. There's nothing like it.................. Respectfully, CPT N.S.
Professor Twain Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Outstanding that you are doing this. I have sent some cigars to guys in Iraq, they have been most appreciative. Sending humidors--that will be a really welcome gift.

The Cigars are sent » to the troops and your money sent to Walter Reed Hospital. Win win » situation True, but sending them to real people who you correspond with has a lot of plusses. I had nice email exchange with one group of Marines, sent me pictures, and I have remained in contact after their return, sharing cigar information. They even met up with some friends on a different Board. I have a group I just sent some to. I don't want to share their contact information until I hear back from them. But there may be other folks on the group who know of soldiers in Iraq who would welcome these.

THANKS for asking the QUESTION - and thanks to Rob for allowing me to post my Holiday Appeal - Support Our Troops - Holiday Drive 2006 on the FOH Forum... I have the confirmed addys of aprox. 55 soldiers (men and women) now deployed in harm's way in Iraq and Afghanistan. The way I have run my Holiday appeals for the last 3++ years (this war has already been going on for that long !!) - YOU tell me you are willing and able to participate in Sponsoring a Soldier for the Holidays. I SEND YOU the name and confirmed Military APO Addy - and YOU SEND THE PACKAGE DIRECTLY!!!!!!! I will send all necessary datails as to how to send (you only pay US Domestic Postage even though package is going overseas) and what type of items are on the most requested list. I do not collect these cigars - YOU send them yourself so there is no doubt that the package was actually posted but more importantly - YOU get to develop your own relationship with your sponsored soldier! and these men and women are remarkable in getting back to their sponsors in confirming receipts and correspondence (whenever possible under the circumstances)... To date - our delivery rate in over 3 years is running in the high 90%++ rate - and we have shipped literally thousands of cigars and sundry items!! Cigars are a key component in every box (and you are MOST WELCOME and ENCOURAGED to send CIGARS - they don't have to be Cuban nor expensive - just cigars that you would know these men and women would enjoy!) as everyone on my list is a known cigar lover - in fact some of the names are 'graduates' of my special 'elective' course at West Point - "The Art of Cigar Smoking and Appreciation for the Young Officer." I have had the honor of personally sharing/smoking literally hundreds of cigars with a lot of the men and women on my list.... However - regardless of to whom the box is addressed - you can be assured that your gift will be distributed and cherished by the entire Platoon or Company (depending on how many sticks are included) and across all ranks - from E-3 (PFC) onto Specialists to Sgts to LTs and CPTs - as I said - I personally know the overwhelming majority of people on this Holiday list and know the generosity that is in each one of them... Please turn to my Thread - Support Our Troops -Holiday Drive 2006 for details and to sign up to sponsor a Soldier now deployed in harm's way for the Holidays!!!!
