Professor Twain Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 I have smoked about halfway through a box of 12 of June 05 Reyes that I picked up in March. Last two (over the past week) have been outstanding--very good spice, espresso taste, full flavored and medium bodied. I found the flavor on these much more intense than I had experienced with several Robusto Extras, including one from 03. So now I want to get a box of 24. The easy choice is the Reyes, but I also have my eye on some 03 Coloniales. Haven't had one yet but they are roughly halfway in between the Reyes and Robusto Extra in size. So, I am curious as to whether the Coloniales will share more in common with the Reyes or REs. I would welcome comments comparing the Reyes and Coloniales, and in particular if anyone has experience with the 03 Coloniales.
Bill Hayes Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 IMHO the Reyes is a great cigar. I think the coloniales is closer to the RE. I'd stick to the Reyes for a smaller smoke and look elswhere for something larger.
El Presidente Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 Professor in my opinion the Reyes is the standout cigar followed by the Coloniales and then a long hop to the Robusto Extra. I put a great Fundadores on a different plane again. The Reyes deliveres in terms of flavour intensity every time. To me it is the strongest in body of all the Trinidads and ranks alongside great examples of the Cohiba Siglo 1. When I reach for a full bodied smaller format cigar I will reach for either: Partagas Serie De Connoisseur No 3 Trinidad Reyes Cohiba Siglo 1
Professor Twain Posted November 20, 2006 Author Posted November 20, 2006 Thanks for the comments. Rob, I love all of the small cigars that you mentioned, I'm going to have to stock up on those Reyes and age them myself. Maybe if I put them in your storage locker I will be able to keep my hands off them.
