Great review! It appears from the pics that mold is the culprit to me.

I was gifted a few of these from Cigar Zen (Mike) and agree fully with his take on these.... excellent cigars and clearly one of the better Winnies I have had.

» How do they compare to a Lusi? I know they are a whole different animal.

» But which one would you buy?

I just recently had my first Sir Winstons from an 02 box. Excellent full flavored cigar. IMHO, much more complex than a Lusitania. But for the money, you can't beat the 03 Bolivar Coronas Gigantes.

H.Upmann Sir Winston Churchill

Year:1998

Factory:JJose Marti (Amistad 407, Havana) - H. Upmann

Construction: Well constructed

Wrapper: Dark Oily and Perfect

Draw: just the right amount of resistance

Body: medium to full

Taste: Spice Woody Sweet Generous

Unlit: cedary and of very fine tobacco

Reference:JM6VSU

The appearance of the cigar caught my soul, dark oily wrapper with well developed crystalization. Needless to say i prepared myself for a smoke of a lifetime. It has been a year since i tasted the last one.

Waiting in anticipation I cleaned the crystallization off the cigar with a soft tissue. Punched a 5mm hole on the cap.....first puff unlit cedary and fine tobacco, the resistance was just right. Compared to the last one i had (one year ago) I found the strength has developed more.

Lighting with a piece of cedar wood allowing the shadowy dance of the flame to caress the open end of the cigar (sorry!! sounds a bit sleazy) the cigar took the flame well.

The first third was smooth with wood and sweet vanilla beans with a hint of dark chocolate.

The second third continues to be smooth but turns complex subtly. Still very woody, but lost partial vanilla in it and spice comes and goes. Other tastes are difficult to identify.( Too complex for my taste buds)

The last, a rush of spice, wood, tobacco, with slight hint of honey sweetness.

I give this cigar 90.
