I noticed that someone has copied and pasted the text of Rob's report on what the future holds for Cuban cigar products over at the CigarWeekly forum:

http://forums.cigarweekly.com/viewtopic.php?t=134660

I asked on that thread whether anyone else thinks is might be wrong to copy and paste something like that to a different forum without the author's permission, as I would feel very uncomfortable doing that. I thought I would post my question over here. Obviously, if Rob has no problem with it then I should butt out. :-D

It seems like pretty standard ettiqutte to ask the posting persons permission particularly if it is a position they are taking. General stories and jokes, who cares.

I've seen Rob's stuff on another forum as well. I tend to look at it this way -

alot of things go on behind the scenes here, and perhaps Rob was contacted,

and maybe didn't want / care if he was referenced by name, though if one is

to believe Smithy, Rob's ego wouldn't allow that !

Ever seen the username Czar01 on that "other" forum? ha ha.

I know who posted that post which was copied from here and he is a good guy who was really just trying to inform people about the excellent facts that all fo us already are privy to because we pay attention to FOH. We do get a lot of good info from Rob - as he is sort of all of our inside man in Havana. No other vendor on any other board that I know of participates in the discussion like Rob. I won't speak for him but it is not like it was secret info or anything.

It may be that Rob gave his permission to copy and paste it over there. Again, if that's the case, my concern is of no moment.

Yes, I agree with this.

But with the information in question it seemed to me that Rob intended it as sort of an "exclusive" for FoH members. Again, I may be dead wrong.

Van, you are more than likely correct in that the info was probably posted without

permission. Maybe the people in question are just trying to share info, maybe

trying to show they have the "inside scoop" - probably wrong either way.

I guess in the end, I don't really pay too much attention to what goes on

on other boards..........

This information has been reposted on several boards other than CW, some as early as 7/20. The fella on CW has the courtesy to mention the info was "borrowed" from another board and it was from a "vendor". Hopefully he and the other reposters asked first.

I wasn't suggesting for a moment that the guy who posted it intended any wrongdoing. On the contrary, he was simply sharing news that is of great interest to all of us who apprciate Cuba and Cuban cigars.

I remember RyJ freaked out about something like this on CWise a few years ago. Remember him screeching about copyrights and deleting all his posts and ****? LOL.

I HARDLY think Rob is anything like RyJ. The post was referenced as originating from another forum. I would bet Rob was flattered.

I personally wouldn't do it, but this is the internet and we're all talking about cigars. Geez.

Are you referring to RyJ7x47? If so I totally forgot about that guy. What a happened to that nutty guy?

Van, I have replied (see below).

I am a member of several boards under Czar01. I have no problems people posting this sites information on other boards as long as permission is sought. Anyway my reply details why.

No biggie.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am the author of the report.

The report has been published on several boards. In each case permission was asked and given immediately.

Information is often "borrowed" from the board in question and used elsewhere. I like permission to be asked as what has been posted is often part of a series of discussions etc and if "borrowed" it needs to be borrowed and tabled in context.

So...yes, asking permission or acknowledging the source would have been the right thing to do.

Am I peeved....no.

Thanks for making your position clear, Rob. I didn't think you'd make a big deal of it. You're a class act.
