seadub Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 I've been looking forward to the release of this cigar for some time. And because I failed in my attempts to get a box of the Monte Robusto EL 2001, I jumped at the chance to put my paws on a sample from this new release. I smoked this one after a big Prime Rib dinner on Tuesday night. Good company and sharing some fantastic cigars. My friend lit an Anejo 55, and I just couldn't resist torching this new Monte. WOW! Another fantastic cigar which will be absolutely classic in a few years. The construction was fantastic. Nice spicey prelight draw. Great leather/tobacco prelight nose. Draw was easy and smooth. Great smoke volume and razor-sharp burn with no corrections necessary. I tasted some distinct changes in this cigar. And a few puffs brought an unexpected smile to my face... sublime. I tasted some subtle sweetness here and there. Not too much power in this one, but an excellent body with flavour that suits my tastes perfectly. I expected this cigar to have some bitter tastes, but that didn't hit me while smoking this one. I took it down to the nub and the cigar got a tad hot, but it was by no means disappointing. Get a box and stash 'em away for a little time. Fantastic cigar! :-D
Erol Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 thanks for the review! I've only got one and I'm saving her for a nice night on a special occasion after a big dinner! I wish i bought more :-(
SGS714 Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 I only had a few singles fron the 01 release and just ordered a box last week. Nice review....looking forward to sneaking 1 or 2 before they go into the back of the humidor for I'm not temped.
El Presidente Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 I am glad you enjoyed it! We have finally got in some good stock levels which will allow me to store a box or two away for myself. Thankyou for the reminder ;-)

Fantastic cigar! :-D They're not so "limited" in "edition" when they make them again a few years later, are they? :-D Sarcasm aside, I'm glad to see they're turning into a good smoke, since there have been some EL disappointments in the past (haven't heard much good about the Mag50 or Epicure Especial).
El Presidente Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Interesting. My favourite Edition Limitada's have been: Cohiba Double Corona Cohiba Sublime HDM Pirimide (although they appear to have lost some flavour) Original Monte Robusto and Partagas Serie D No 3 (I can't comment on the current release as they are still too fresh). Partagas Pirimide Romeoy Julieta Hermoso No 2 I didn't mind the Hoyo De Monterrey Epicure Montecristo D I detested the Cohiba Pirimide The rest made such little impression that I neither liked nor disliked them. Just not memorable at he time and need a revisit.
Black Plague Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 :-D Now I just noticed they brought back the Monte Robusto and PSD3, but NOT the Cohiba Pyramid as many thought they would. I guess Habanos has been paying attention to what their customers are saying about it.
CWS Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 Not the Mag 50? I think this will be one of the greats with tremendous potential. I was suprised to not see it on your list. On the Partagas Serie D No. 3 I must fully agree.

Tasted like cardboard. I've had a few of the new Monte and Party ELs and have not been real impressed. It'll be tough for the SD3 to live up to the original.
