Jcurl Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 Finally chimed in after a year of reading the reviews. Love the site and all of the input. It's amazing to see the variance of opinion from response to response. My last smoke was a Partagas Short while walking the dog yesterday (single, but likely recent). I was very pleasantly surprised. Medium bodied with lovely smoke and a even burn. Not big enough for the golf course but a good limited time smoke. Being new to cuban cigars, I could never relate to all of the aging talk. I thought everybody was full of !@#$ but it's true. My oldest box(Part.SD4) is just two years old but I've really begun to see what the talk is about as I revisit some of my earlier purchases. Here's my question: Is the aging process consistent through out or does it change as time passes? i.e.- from age zero to two does it age more rapidly than it does at ages eight to ten? Or is it all at the same pace? My teacher years ago once told me "there are no stupid questions, only stupid people who ask questions" :-D

argon345 Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 Welcome to FOH!!! As for your question on ageing i'm sure either Rob or Ken can chime in on this one or even another more qualified member....I would think that aging will depend on a lot of factors such as storage and even the cigars themselves.... As you will see (or have seen) lots of good people here so enjoy your stay!!
El Presidente Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 Welcome mate! Re ageing, there are more schools of thought than you can poke a stick at. I respect most of the viewpoints up to a point. My 2 cents. 0-2 years: dramatic changes undergoing. Cigar can actually taste worse at the 2 year mark that the 6 month mark. 2-4 years: The teenage years. Some remain rebellious and asleep. Others begin to blossom and reveal their true potential. 4-6 years: Halleluia! It is like a coming out party. They think that they are mature but still some rough edges. The oilier, fuller brutes still need a few clips over the ear. 6-10 years: Perhaps my favourite period for the majority of cigars. This period is to my taste. I believe that some lighter blends begin to go backwards in flavour post 10 years. I would put the next period at 15 years and then 25 years. I understand that people believe there is a development of elegance and finesse at the 25 year mark and I do not disagree with them. There is however a dilusion of flavour in some lines which can not handle the long hauls. I prefer flavour over finesse...which is just me.
Loki Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Welcome to FOH. Hmm, Aging and Immigration, both are a tough issue. It seems like you can never have enough cigars to lay down for long term aging and we have way too many Illegal Aliens that want to lay down in our country for long term aging.:-D
