What 5 or 6 cigars should be in everybodies humidor? There are probably many opinions on this forum as to what cigar best represent the cuban people and there culture. But what I am asking is what regular production cigars fit the bill. Nothing fancy because not everybody just starting out can afford, find, or even appreciate the suttle nuances of rare ,aged, or custom sticks. I have found that most partakers of the leaf love to share there passion and find great satisfaction when introducing friend or family to a damn fine cigar. So I'm asking guys and gals what are the most haves!!! :-P

As you are aware, there are no right or wrong answers to your question. With that in mind, I will offer my opinion, in no particular order:

Montecristo No2

Cohiba Lancero

Cohiba Siglo VI

Bolivar PC

Bolivar Royal Corona

Partagas Serie du Conn No1

Trinidad Fundadores

All of the cigars listed above are currently in my humidor. There are many more classics, but I have yet to try them all.

If such a cigar exists, I suppose it would be one graced with the

Robaina band.

Sancho Panza Non Plus

Monte #2

RASS

VR Clasico

blah blah Cohiba blah blah Trinidad

oh, and a big jug of rum!

I would name the following as five "classic" Cuban cigars:

Montecristo #2

Romeo y Julieta Churchill

Partagas Lusitania

Cohiba Lancero

Trinidad Fundadore

Slightly less "classic"

Montecristo #4

H. Upmann Sir Winston

Cohiba Robusto

Montecristo A

Hoyo de Monterrey Double Corona

Note that Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta, Hoyo de Monterrey, Cohiba and Partagas are the only Cuban marcas that are distributed world-wide.

Oh.... as an afterthought...

By identifying the cigars above as Cuban classics, I don't intend to endorse them for your purchasing pleasure.

Monte #2 and Monte #4 are far too inconsistent for my taste. I would opt for the H. Upmann #2 and Bolvar PC for these marcas.

Cohiba Lanceros and Cohiba Robustos are not, to my taste, worth the premium you pay for them. I would opt for Partagas Serie du Connoisseur or Monte Especial #1 in lieu of the Lancero, and RASS in lieu of the CoRo.

For my taste, Bolivar Coronas Gigantes are the best Churchill sized cigar going, though aged RyJ's are excellent.

Ramon Allones Gigantes and Vegas Robaina Don Alejandro are better Prominentes than Hoyo DC's in my opinion.

Nice list Van :ok:

When I think Cuban cigars I think:

Cohiba Robusto

Romeo y Julieta Churchill

Montecristo No 2

Partagas Serie D No 4

Hoyo De Monterrey Double Corona

Habanos regard these brands as "The Big 5"

You will never see a regional release selected from these brands.

For the neophyte I would stay away from the esoteric/needing age sticks and concentrate on the more approachable vitolas:

SP Beli

Mag 46

CoRo

RASCC

Partagas D4

RyJ churchill

Punch DC

These, IMO, represent a good starting point for an intro to Habanos.

» Nice list Van,

Finally got this to go through!!!

My first intro to cuban cigars was about 6 years ago with a chance purchase of a box of Lanceros, guy I worked with had just came back from overseas and needed the money, Do to the lack of availability these cigars were well rationed and in fact I still have 5 left. Inter the world wide web and purchasing practices changed about 1 1/2 years ago. My palate is still in its infancy but here goes.

Cohiba Lanceros (classic)- pricy but not as costly as a fundadora(another fine cigar) the corona esp is good when your lacking the time.

Partagas conn. #1 (classic)-just smoked one from 03 last night what a fine cigar, some say old world partagas flavor, I wouldn't know but I like em!

PLPC- (maybe not a classic but unique) I just love these bastsrds, glad I have a extra cab KMM 04 in deep sleep.

PSD4- (classic) smoke em young, PSP2 should has potental needs to be around a few more years

Partagas Lusitanias(classic)- When I want a big stick( relax Ken :-D)I reach for this one.

Cohiba esplindidos (classic)- I had to come back and add this cigar, they're way over priced probably would never buy a box unless someone found some that were exceptional ;-) but when there on they'll take your breath away!!-

Life is not the destination but the journey and purchasing is a pleasure ,right EL PREZ ;-). thanks for the feedback!!!
