I agree. Although they SAY wrapper accounts very little towards flavor? IMHO it is certainly enough to make a difference. (Try taking the wrapper of a BPC and see if you can taste the difference?)

Anyway, I had quite a few boxs of Rass from 01 to 03 that had every shade known! The ones with the "red-ish hue" Rob mentioned were significantly better. That is not to say the others were bad, because I am HUGE Rass fan. But the red wrappers were my favorites.

Rob-are you seeing the redish hue wrappers on any recent production of Rass? (it is about time for another order;-) )

Pick the Fake RASS?

Questions : True/False

1. You can tell a fake RASS because of the lack of detail on the band. Check carefully the "crest".

2 You can tell a fake box of RASS because of the variation in girth between cigars.

3. You can tell a fake box of RASS because of a variation in length between cigars.

4. Printing irregularities on the box are a dead give away to fake cigars.

****note. Both boxes below are DIC 05

Answer

1. You can tell a fake RASS because of the lack of detail on the band. Check carefully the "crest".

False crest embellishment varies from heavily detailed to almost blank. This can even be within the same box. It is simply a matter of printing.

2 You can tell a fake box of RASS because of the variation in girth between cigars.

False RASS along with Bolivar Royal Corona are notorious to having some 52 guage cigars as well as some 48 guage cigars within the same box.

3. You can tell a fake box of RASS because of a variation in length between cigars.

False You can tell from the pic above the difference of length within the same box.

4. Printing irregularities on the box are a dead give away to fake cigars.

False Printing in Havana is what you may have found in the 60's and 70's. Mistakes occur be it on bands or boxes. The first reaction in Cuba is "use it if you can" so we do see from time to time irregularities.

I would be interested to hear about your cigar anomolies :-P

Well?? It looks like you have answered your own question Rob!......LOL!!............But yea, the answer is is RESOUNDING false on ALL 4 questions!

As others have already said, slight differnces in length, gauge and detailing of bands is quite common and in no way inicates that they are counterfiet.

Rob,

Heres a pic of 2 singles from different 2005 boxes. (purchased within the last month)

The one on the right has a ring gauge of 49 and a length 4 14/16"

The other has a ring gauge of 51 and a length of 4 14/16"

The embossing on the label looks much the same although the crest in both is not very pronounced. The big difference is the colour the one on the right is colorado and the other claro (I think that's close enough to the correct terminology)

You have shown a few pics of variance within a box? Could this mean that fakes are intermixed with the real ones ? How can this be if factory sealed ?

By the way if either of these prove to be fakes I'll be round to insert a bottle of Manzanilla Sherry into someone !
