I have not heard this but I will follow up. The "nail cut" is not simple "pinch." It is a serration where you meticulously serrate on the flat inside section of the cap and then "flick" the serrated section out.

Van55 Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 I have tried a punch and found almost uniformly that this method causes undue tar and gas to build up in the cigar as I smoke it, causing a bitter and rancid taste. For parejos I cut about 1/16 inch off. For pirimides and other figurados I cut on a 45 degree angle to the length of the cigar down about 1/8 inch from the tip to about 1/4 inch, thus creating as much surface area as possible without cutting too much.
i_m_bug Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 The cap is all i would like to take off. However on some occasion, the point where the cap is "glued" on some times gets loosen with the saliva after smoking and will slowly unravel and some bits do get into the mouth. Very disruptive to the enjoyment on hand.......:-| Anyway to avoid that? or how can this be remedied?
patrick Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 I just trim the cap off. I used to take a little more but I find that all you really need to cut is the cap. And now I get to see the little divit on some of the cigars that I always hear people talk about.
bgoodz Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 If I'm not using a punch then I clip just the end of the cap and leave as much of the shoulder as I can so I can re-cut if necessary but that is seldom.
Lorax429 Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 I just clip the very tip of the head. I don't want to cut thru mch if any of the filler.
ehdg Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 Personally I try to cut as little of the cap as possible.
tacmedic Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 I try to just take off the cap, then remove the divot...seems to work fine with most....
