I have not heard this but I will follow up.

The "nail cut" is not simple "pinch." It is a serration where you meticulously serrate on the flat inside section of the cap and then "flick" the serrated section out.

I have tried a punch and found almost uniformly that this method causes undue tar and gas to build up in the cigar as I smoke it, causing a bitter and rancid taste.

For parejos I cut about 1/16 inch off. For pirimides and other figurados I cut on a 45 degree angle to the length of the cigar down about 1/8 inch from the tip to about 1/4 inch, thus creating as much surface area as possible without cutting too much.

The cap is all i would like to take off.

However on some occasion, the point where the cap is "glued" on some times gets loosen with the saliva after smoking and will slowly unravel and some bits do get into the mouth. Very disruptive to the enjoyment on hand.......:-| Anyway to avoid that? or how can this be remedied?

I just trim the cap off. I used to take a little more but I find that all you really need to cut is the cap. And now I get to see the little divit on some of the cigars that I always hear people talk about.

If I'm not using a punch then I clip just the end of the cap and leave as much of the shoulder as I can so I can re-cut if necessary but that is seldom.
