El Rushbo Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 Just curious if anyone else has had the same problem. One day, all is well...the next day, BAM 3 inch hairline crack (what effect it has on RH we shall see) in the top portion of the glass top humidor. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, is there an easy way to remedy the problem (temporarily until I can get a new humidor)? Thanks fellas!(and ladies )
Colt45 Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 Rush, I wouldn't think a hairline crack would cause a humidity problem, but there are "patches" made for car windshields that, for lack of a better term, "fuse" the crack. My insurance company sends them to me every now and then (so you don't have your windshield replaced). Perhaps these could be found at a windshield replacement shop?
connoiseur29 Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 I doubt it would cause a significant problem. It may increase the frequency of recharging your humidification device a bit. Just see how it goes. Just make sure that the glass filler you use doesn't give off aromas from the chemicals that will harm/be absorbed by your cigars

The windshield repair kits have polyacrylate (super) glue and that stinks before they fully cure. Would a piece of duct tape detract from the look?
lfg2nrg Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 I thought this was a post about a defective fake Cohiba box. LOL I wouldn't worry about it to much. You might check with a glass shop to see if they can replace the glass.

Well Armed Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 I bet you could leave it for a long time and be just fine.
swl Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 Try a transparent clear nail polish. I don't if they make them without the chemical smell. But I have read that lightly brushing them onto windshield cracks will keeping them from getting bigger. Worth a try. Good Luck!

It's possible the wood expanded and caused the crack. Take the glass out, get a new piece of glass to replace it. It's just regular glass. There is no special humidor glass.:-D
kingfisher59 Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 » I bet you could leave it for a long time and be just fine. I would just do the nailpolish thing on the outside and let it be ...No need to replace the humi just because of the crack....unless it's a personal thing.....you said it was kinda expensive ...I'd just let it be.
