Storing in boxes - multiple blends

I have cabinet humidor that holds 15-20 boxes. I prefer to store the cigars in boxes for personal preference reasons (which includes ease of rotation).

I often want to buy more boxes, but don't have room. However, one solution would be to combine cigars into one box, but I'm concerned about blending of flavors within a box. I know there is a lot varying opinions on the "marrying" of cigars in the same humidor.

So...my question is -- If I stor multiple marcas/vitolas in the same cigar box within a humidor, would that be problem? I don't want any marrying of flavor.

I personally wouldnt worry about mixing cigars in boxes...especially short term (1-5 years). You are right in saying there are a lot of opinions on cigars "marrying", but I dont buy it.

I say mix 'em if you need the room. It'll be just like a singles drawer with a top.

I have found NO marrying of flavors in my humidors... YET.(3 years and counting...) BUT, I always put a sheet of cedar between mine, that keeps them from actually physically touching each other.

(unwrap some of the cedar wraped puros) or hit a local humidor & ask for some...

If ther flavors were really gonna merry together, I would buy some cheap Dominicans and mixem up then. Wouldnt cost as much to smoke then.

I've never noticed any marrying in my humi...it's a desktop, and ALL cigars are loose.

I agree.

My junk box has a mixture of different cigars. SOme sitting for as long as 3 yrs together. The cigars all tend to keep their particular flavor profile.

Of course I would never put flavored cigars in with real ciagrs..LOL!!:-D

Maybe in twenty years or so it could affect it, but as for me, I only keep a small desktop humidor with about 50 or so various cigars in it, and I've aged cigars in their for two or three years and never had any problems with flavors or wrapper colors. I wouldn't worry about it.

Also to ease your mind, you can keep same brands in the same box...eg Partagas only box..but keep the different sizes separate with cedar sheets......

This is the way I do it as well when I need to extra space. When I need to mix cigars together in a box, I try to mix the same brand, different vitolas. I do, however, have some cedar trays that have mixed singles, twosies, etc. I've never noticed any marrying of flavors over the time they've been there.

I have mixed trays too. My concern was specifically about the extreme close quarters of storing them within the same closed cigar box, within my humi. But it looks like I need not be concerned.

I am sure I aked this question on this board before and the answer remains the same. I had many half boxes and was running out of room. I do like to keep the marcas together when possible. I have one cab box that contains Partagas Lusitania, SD4, Serie du Conn #1 and 8-9-8 varnished. Oh what a lovely combo!:-D

Those of you who insist that cigar flavors don't "marry" need only put an Acid Kuba Kuba in your humidor with your other overnight to be convinced otherwise.

Of course that's extreme, given the complete lack of subtlety of the infusions to Acid cigars. Any cross-flavoring from one Cuban cigar to another would not be nearly as noticeable, of course. And I have not found, from my own experience, that an H. Upmann Mag 46 begins to taste like a Cohiba Siglo VI, even if they have been stored together nearly two years.

I haven't had any problems with my sticks in the humi for over 3 years now. But, if you're paranoid the cedar sheet works well in a smaller humi.

Defintely store your cubans together in the humidor... Don't worry about the marrying of flavors... If there was any truth to it I would have 50 boxes of Vegueros Especiales #1 in the humidor with three or four boxes of Cohiba Lanceros!! In about 3-4 years I would hope they would have inbreed to all taste like Cohibas!!! :wink:

Sad to say, but I know somebody who actually did that. No, it wasn't me.
