Not long ago someone asked what sort of lighter we all used and more than a few people said they used Zippo's. My understanding was that Zippo and Zippo style lighters were terrible for cigars because the fuel left a bad taste in the cigar. Does anyone have any opinions on this or does our president have the official word?

Cheers

Yes indeed gas lighters are bad news when it comes to Cigars for the reasons you noted and should only be used as a last resort. Personally I exclusively use matches to light my smokes.

Butane lighters however are just fine.

Zippo's are a no go.

I have used a Butane Torch to light cigars for years now. Most of our cigars here are enjoyed outdoors and there is generally a prevailing breeze. The secret to Torches is that the flame should never touch the cigar....Never Ever.

Funny, I use my zippo almost exclusively. I've used matches, and butane torches as

well, but have always come back to my trusty zippo. I've never had any adverse

taste from using it. I guess I'm just a barbarian.
