Hello All!

I'm pretty new here and am wondering if anyone has a home cigar lounge?

I'm finishing my basement soon and am plan on having one built out for me; wondering if anyone has anyone has any tips, ideas, any general knowledge or would just like to discuss.

Thanks!

So many tips. I haven't published my home lounge article yet but:

  • Air flow is king. Many people will recommend a smoke eater, but in my experience over engineering air exhaust plus some fresh air in when you need it is key.
  • It's best if the room you're converting is next to the mechanical room for ducting. The room needs to be isolated from your HVAC.
  • A normal internal door is fine, you should have more than enough negative air pressure that smoke will not escape
  • I went with manual fan controls to start with, later I realized wifi fan controls means I can leave it on after I'm done for clean air over night.

Thank you! That’s an awesome looking space! I’ve looked at inline fans as an option to pull out the smoke. I didn’t think of having and additional one for pulling fresh air, that’s a great tip! The area I’m considering would be isolated from the home HVAC system. Do you mind sharing how big the space is and what you used for the air flow with wifi controls you mentioned?

Thanks again!

The space is a converted bedroom, 10' x 12'. Originally I wanted a larger space and my wife talked some sense into me.

I over engineered the exhaust, and I almost wish I had gone larger, honestly. Two 6 inch AC infinity fans for exhaust and one 4 inch AC infinity for intake. I typically only run the exhaust fans at 30 or 40% when I'm by myself, I turn them up to 60% if I have multiple people in the room.

The controller is an AC infinity smart controller that connects to Wi-Fi and has an app. After I'm done smoking I leave the whole room on 10% overnight to clear out any lingering smoke smell.

My wife has a better nose than a bloodhound and absolutely hates smoke so I took a bit of a flyer on the project based on a design that a local good friend has and he's advice was dead on.

For heating I have a baseboard heater, and a duct heater but the duct heater almost never gets used.

I’m literally in the process of building my basement man cave/ lounge right now. My room build out is slightly smaller (10x9 ft), will be running two 4” ac infinity inline fans for exhausting at full power (figure 150 Cfm per unit accounting for ducting loss, factory rating is 205 Cfm) for around 25 air exchanges per hour (15 ach is the recommended for smoking rooms from my research), think I’ll be ok for my size room with a lower ceiling (8ft). Noise is not a concern as the fans will be behind a wall outside the room.

Still debating if I need a third inline fan for fresh air intake from a heated/cooled portion of the basement or if a simple vent through the wall will do. Will likely add a winix 5510 air purifier as well. Even if my lounge stays in the 60’s F over the winter while smoking due to the air exchanges, it beats the crap out of 30 F to -20F outdoors. I only smoke 2-3 sticks a week so lingering smell shouldn’t be an issue. Also much better than sitting outdoors in near 100F heat index jungle weather summer nights.

Keep us updated on your build!
