The original Cardiff Giant was exhumed on August 16, 1869 in Cardiff, New York. The giant was originally crafted by cigar maker, George Hull out of a block of gypsum carved into the likeness of a man over 10 fee tall. The giant was buried and a discovery staged. The advertising is from the original Cardiff discovery and exhibition, before Barnum failed to purchase the Cardiff Giant. Barnum later created a giant of his own and declared the Cardiff example a hoax. Letterpress handbill, W.E. Castle, Albany, New York.
