The way tobacco products are sold in Belgium is changing in a big way, as a new law went into effect today that effectively bans the public display of such products, though retailers are being given a grace period of one year to come into full compliance.

In a nutshell, the country is making it illegal for tobacco products to be displayed for sale to the public, meaning the actual products must be hidden from public view by way of storage closets, cabinets, drawers, closed containers under or beneath the counter, behind curtains or sliding doors, behind opaque glass, or similar means.  Advertising, signage and other means of communication are also prohibited.

For cigar smokers used to browsing a walk-in humidor while deciding which cigars to purchase, the changes will be drastic.

The demonization of tobacco worldwide now it seems is mind blowing and so sad.
