Total and partial collapses of houses, downed power poles, destroyed farmhouses, flooded fields, and swollen rivers are being reported due to the incessant rains.

President Miguel Díaz-Canel said on Saturday that immediate recovery efforts should focus on removing debris, restoring water and electricity, and providing processed food to areas still without power.

During a meeting with authorities in Havana, Díaz-Canel stressed the need to update disaster preparedness plans.

The Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) and the Cuban Women’s Federation (FMC) informed that they would begin collecting donations of food, hygiene articles, household items, clothing, shoes, and others that will contribute to the recovery of the affected families.

Preliminary estimates indicate that 26 buildings in Havana have collapsed, 148 people have been sheltered in state centers, and 762 citizens are self-evacuated at the homes of relatives and friends.

Boyeros, Diez de Octubre, Cotorro, San Miguel, Arroyo Naranjo, La Lisa, and Cerro are the most affected municipalities in Havana.
