Popular Post El Presidente Posted March 15, 2023 Popular Post Posted March 15, 2023 Brilliant Brewery: G.F. Burkhardt. Boston, Massachusetts Date of manufacture: Pre-Prohibition Condition/Comments: This is one of only 2 examples of this sign known to us! Very early, circa 1870. Fanciful scene abundant with humorous and interesting action including: a large, standing, anatomically complete goat wearing a brewers star necklace is conducting the party, a man lower right attempting to light his cigar is lighting the brim of his hat, goat toward bottom center holding his head likely from a hangover while two goats to his right are amused by such, well dressed goats toward top left are dancing with well dressed ladies while the band plays toward top right, a man wearing a Union military hat and uniform toward left, Buck-Waltz flag toward top right--all apparently inside a brewery with large beer casks and barrels. The scene is framed in hop vines. Litho is nicely presented in period correct frame. About 24 x 31 inches framed. The other example of this piece known to us is locked up in a passionate younger collector collection so this may be the first, last and only chance to acquire this incredible piece. Cleaned and preserved by Oppenheimer of Chicago. NO restoration. Litho is all original. 4 1
