Popular Post Cigar-Therapy Posted December 29, 2022 Popular Post Posted December 29, 2022 When I originally got this 10er pack of HdM - San Juan - the write up posted in 24:24 had me drooling... Cream... sweet sponge cake and cream with a mezzo coffee. Cream and light toast, cinnamon on the edges. I thought - these would be right up my alley, so I received them early in 2022 and decided to let them rest... The first one I decided to smoke in May - I had with a flat white (my go to drink) and it wasn't bad, but the pairing was not perfect. I was perplexed, thought maybe I'm the screw up my father always told me I was (just kidding of course). So I left them alone... until I figured out what I thought would go best with it for my palette. I picked one up for this review, straight cut, and toasted nicely. This ring gauge is at the top of my limit, but there is no denying the feeling like a boss with this stick. I light up and I get the sponge cake - but reminds me of a ginger sponge cake - this could be cinnamon to others, but as someone who loves ginger that is the note it strikes with me. I don't pick up on cream in flavor, but the creamy texture is impossible to ignore. Great viscous smoke output, and the burn is fairly straight. Now the drink I decided to pair with this was an Old Fashioned, made with Weller Bourbon. The reticent bourbon bite compliments the ginger/cinnamon spice I am getting - and the sweetness of the drink gives it more depth. I enjoy this sweet and spice interplay through the next 75-90 minutes. Was there transition? 🤷♂️ I'm not adept at picking up on that... but I enjoyed it the entire time! The last part of the write up did read, this is a lay down cigar for a few years to enable the sweet spices to develop alongside the cream present now. So I guess I need to let the others rest for the time being. Score: 92/100 12
