Does the Ratching ammonia removal system work?

So we have all seen this system being advertised, and a few friends asked me about it.

 

I am doubtful, is it a marketing gimmick or science coming to our rescue once more?

I've always wondered about this. I didn't spring for that option on my Raching humidor.

I recently spoke with the manufacturer, and all of the new systems have the ammonia removal system in them. They redesigned the humidors so now the ammonia system is located behind the rear panel. You can no longer see the large aluminum pill shaped device, but according to them it is hidden behind the rear cedar panel. I haven't removed it to verify, but thats the email I received.
