I enjoy an NC Connecticut in the morning quite often. This morning, I’m smoking a panetela from RoMa Craft Tobac, which I believe is a company known for stronger cigars. This is not that, though I’d put it above mild strength. It’s 5 1/2 x 37, which is a great size for the morning in my opinion. The wrapper is a bit dark for a Connecticut and a bit rustic, to be quite honest. It has a half cm or so of shaggy foot showing under the wrapper, which is interesting to me, and seems to help with getting a good light without scorching the wrapper too much.

The aroma from the foot is negligible, just a touch of cedar. The cold draw is also very light - a bit of cedar and a floral note maybe. Nothing much stands out. I grab my coffee and light it up. That floral flavor is the first note I pick up, along with something like almonds. A bit of nectar sweetness a few puffs in. The retro is all cedar.

The second third continues in a similar vein, but the almond flavor I was unsure about has crystallized into peanuts. The floral notes continue, and so does the touch of nectar behind them. Construction is good.

The final third sees the different flavors above combine into peanut butter. There’s an enjoyable tingly sensation on the lips. A touch of white pepper near the end, but barely noticeable. The band appears to be superglued, to itself and  to the wrapper, which is unfortunate. I still manage to smoke it down to almost a nub before I put it down. Strength stuck around medium for most of the cigar, and so did body.

Having smoked these several times before, I will say that I cannot always get past the last inch and a half this cigar. The draw sometimes opens up to become a wind tunnel. This example developed a slight run near the end, but it was still easily smokeable.

All in all, it’s a good morning cigar for me, albeit one with a few issues. It’s a bit linear, but I don’t mind that in the AM so much. It’s something I can smoke without paying too much attention to it, but still enjoying it. Definitely will buy these again.

Total Smoking Time: 1 hour 1 minute

Score: 88/100
