The land of the best tobacco in the world officially began the plantings corresponding to the 2021-22 season, although several days ago the vegueros began to plant small areas, where the seedlings reached their peak of development earlier than expected.

Of the 2500 hectares that the Pinar del Río municipality has planned, approximately 15 percent of the province's plan, 200 correspond to covered tobacco to obtain coat, and of these, 110 to the credit and services cooperative ( CCS) Gervasio Hernández.

Benancio Ramírez Rivas, president of said productive structure, pointed out that 68 growers will participate in the challenge and another 24 will be in charge of the 18 ha of sun tobacco.

The plain of the young Israel Piñeiro de Armas, will host 250 thousand covering positions, with just 23 years old he already has a long experience, since from the age of 15 he joined with his father to agricultural work, however, it is the second time that he ventures in this mode.

In the previous campaign he collected 200 quintals of the sheet, and he has high expectations for the current one: "I want to go for more and reach 250", he assures that, although some inputs have high prices, in the end the payment he receives will allow him to amortize those expenses.

They already have the fertilizer for the first two applications that the crop requires and they have also renewed the fabric, Ramírez Rivas pointed out, while Israel emphasizes the importance of choosing the right variety, in their case, they opted for the Criollo 98, with many potentialities for the obtaining layer and expects to fulfill its productive commitment.
