Popular Post saltbox Posted March 18, 2021 Popular Post Posted March 18, 2021 Found a reasonably well packed shorter smoke to try going for relative ash size, if not absolute. Just under 4 months of rest at 62RH, almost 3 years of age on this cigar which came from a tin of 5. I usually don't pay any attention to the ash, as long as the burn and construction aren't problematic. Flavor is first and foremost above all, and as long as nothing about the cigar is distracting from it I'm happy. For the same reason, I don't pay particular attention to the length of the ash and typically proactively ash whenever it feels like it would fall with a light tap, which depends largely on the ring gauge of the cigar. For me, trying to actively create the longest ash possible is a form of distraction in the same way having to touch up an uneven burn is. Obviously I went for maximum ash length on this smoke, and in hindsight felt like I didn't get to sit back and enjoy the flavors as much. First third: Opens with nice creamy coffee and cocoa and a beautifully creamy sweetness on the finish. The flavors start off strong but intensify further within the first half inch, with rich creamy mocha notes and a touch of nuttiness. Middle third: Very milky chocolate, almost like eating a mocha hard candy. The coffee notes become richer and darker. The ash has picked up a bit of a lean and I'll have to see if I can correct for. Last third: Rich coffee and cream with some dark chocolate sweetness on the finish. In the last half inch or so the flavors lose steam and become a more mundane cedar and cream. Manage to make it almost all the way to the end of the smoke before the ash falls off, shortly after the last picture. Overall: nice and tasty, maybe my favorite of the shorter Montecristo vitolas I've had (Petit Edmundo, No. 4, No. 5). 90/100 8
