Popular Post saltbox Posted March 8, 2021 Popular Post Posted March 8, 2021 Rested at 62RH for 4.5 months, 1 year 2 months box age. First time trying the Magnum 46, so was excited to see how it smoked as one frequently cited as bold and strong. First third: Opens with shortbread and cedar spice. Once it settles down a bit, some licorice and dark coffee come forward. It is indeed bold and powerful, and reminds me quite a bit of Bolivar with maybe a touch of some Upmann shortbread. Some tannic cedar appears with a bit of almost creme brulee sweetness on the finish. Middle third: Shortbread and cedar, dark coffee and licorice. There's some nice leather on the retrohale. As I near the end of this third, the licorice and coffee fade. Last third: More of the same shortbread and cedar, and the faintest licorice and black coffee hang on. Some peppery spice appears as well, and the cigar becomes a bit hot and harsh in the last inch. Overall: I see why Magnum 46 are often described as an outlier in the Upmann marca. Lots of bold, darker flavors that really are more similar to the Bolivars I've had than other Upmann vitolas. Very excited to see how these age over a longer time period. 88/100 9
