The wrapper is a deep chestnut hue. A little toothy but smooth overall. The construction is good. A few light soft spots but should be ok. The box press should help. The triple cap looks rustic and the foot is packed. Aromas of milk chocolate, orange peel, barnyard and ginger snaps emanate from the wrapper.

The draw is open. Might be an issue with the soft spots. Eucalyptus, ginger snaps, leather and touches of lavender come from the cold draw.

First Third

Beautiful and lush to start. Surprisingly strong at the get go. Strength is at a medium to strong bodied level. Here we go....

The retrohale is robust. Thick layers of citrus, earth, leather and touches of cinnamon move confidently through the nasal passages.

The after finish is something else. Beautiful layers of citrus, earth, leather and cinnamon flow into light oak and ginger snaps. Delicious. Very full on the palate with lasting staying power. A wonderful start.

Second Third

Light oak and cinnamon move up in the flavour profile hierarchy. Strength level continues to be at a medium to full bodied level.

The after finish starts to flex its muscles. The medium to full bodied strength level amplifies the flavours and allows them to last on the palate. Cinnamon and light oak lead the way, followed by citrus, earth, leather and touches of cocoa and eucalyptus. Potent and delicious. A flavour profile to just ease back and enjoy as it lingers on the palate.

Final Third

Cinnamon and oak fully take over as they move through the nasal passages. Very rich and assertive.

The after finish is muscular. Heavy layers of cinnamon and oak, followed by leather, earth, ginger snaps and citrus. Touches of eucalyptus come in here and then, deepening the flavour profile. Strength continues to be at the medium to full bodied level. Surprisingly strong, considering the age. The flavours linger on the palate for days. Beautiful finish to this.

Final Impressions

This is smoking beautifully right now. So far, all 1998 EDRM that I have smoked for this contest have been outstanding. Thank you to the FOH crew for giving me the motivation to enjoy these right now.

The sad part to the story is that these are also discontinued. Tough that such a great marca has been reduced to only 2 vitolas in regular production. If you stocked up, you’ll be happy to enjoy these for years to come or make a good profit on secondary markets. Hopefully, Habanos SA will reinvigorate the regular production lineup over time, seeing the popularity of EDRM in the Edicion Regional program. Time will tell. A+

Very nice Art!  Love the ERDM PC - Got one box from '10 stashed away, but that one is not seeing anyone's humi but my own, I like these too much.

Funny, I had an NNSC VC1 box, and I got a lot of Eucalyptus from those cigars too. I think I have one lonely single from it left, need to spark it up to see.

Thanks Chris. I think I have a box of these stashed away as well. Been smoking through my singles/fivers first before cracking any boxes.

Hope you are doing well. Post your thoughts when you smile that single....
