Popular Post Walt69 Posted July 12, 2020 Popular Post Posted July 12, 2020 Hi folks. Picked up a box of these on the cheap and have to say i'm thoroughly impressed. Haven't rested very long and today had a pretty darn good experience. Mostly mild/medium bodied with no strength noted whatsoever. Initial flavors on light up of musty grass/almond. Then a sweetness comes in, not chocolate or artificial, but like a sugar cane sweetness which i could actually feel on my lips along with the oils from the wrapper. Few puffs later that "flavor" i associate with my favorite cubanesque essence starts popping up pretty heavily "first time i noticed this was in a bolivar cj." It's a sort of floral zing, almost a citrusy quality. This continues throughout the rest of the cigar but plays a backup role in the last third or so when some creaminess and a VERY light pepper comes in and mixes with the sweet from earlier. Overall a very enjoyable experience and i'm surprised I liked it so much for a cheaper mixed filler stick. The flavors were awfully bolivaresque, so much so that I would be curious if some of the mixed filler is trimmings from the Bolivar brand itself? Does anyone know if these guys are related in any way? If I had to compare to something non-cuban i would dare say it's like an Ashton classic had a baby with an Illusione Epernay. Obviously not as refined as either of those two but the core profile was similar. In conclusion, I would highly recommend this stick to someone who is looking for a good cheapie to have on hand, and to pass out to new cigar guys looking for an inexpensive representation of what cuban tobacco can taste like. 5
