Popular Post GavLew79 Posted March 31, 2020 Popular Post Posted March 31, 2020 I thought I had 10 of these left and was going to hawk them on Bond Roberts...but when I checked, I only had 9!? I must have already dipped in at some point and forgotten. Oh well, up in smoke they go! I dusted off a little fluff of light brown fuzzy mold spots. (Tiny and the only one to have them, but strange as I'm typically 58-62% RH.). The start was magical. I lit carefully with a soft flame and took that first puff of sweet confectionary, tinged with a little citrus, like a sweet cake with lemon peel. This continued for a few puffs but then settled into a rythym of tangy, woody, cedary kind of flavours. The sweetness and chocolate I associate with these was not present. Just as I entered the 2nd third a chocolate note came in fleetingly, but then disappeared under the primary tobacco and wood flavour. In the last third, bitterness and sour ammonia came to the fore and it became unpleasant. Almost like a "young" cigar. This affirms my belief that "youth" is a myth. If the cigar is rolled or blended poorly, using some unripe/poorly-fermented leaves, you get bitterness and the sugars do not resolve. This is nearly 13 years old and very well acclimated to my humidor; being purchased more about 7 years ago. Normally stellar, but this particular example only gets an 85/100. That's the way she goes, sometimes. 7
