Bought a 5’er of these here on 24:24 last year. It was a combo - a 5’er of 2013’s and a 5’er of 2018’s.

The ‘13s have all had pretty shoddy construction and wrappers that looked questionable - as in, thick wrappers that had a kind of fireproof look to them. I know that sounds stupid but I think you know the wrappers I’m talking about.

This cigar had the same look. But, it’s the last one I have left and I felt like it was begging to be put out of its misery!!!! Clip a small piece of the cap, reveals “THE DIVET” and a draw that is perfect.

I light up and it starts off with a very fruity flavor. Like a strong cherry taste. I’m thinking wow if this is what I’m in for, then this will be a dream! After a few draws, however, the familiar Partagas spice made its grand entrance. Medium+ bodied, these 2013’s have not really simmered down in body or strength.

Not far into the 1/3 I am getting hit with the same construction issues. Wrapper burning with a mind of its own, requiring touch ups and frequent puffing to keep from going out, annnnd it’s out. Re-light. Flavors are all typical Partagas - leather, meaty chili, bell peppers, spices. What’s missing is any kind of sweet cream.

2/3 - This wrapper is a pain in the a**. It’s just burning all over the place. And the frequent puffing required to keep the cigar lit is making this thing get harsh and in your face in a hurry.

3/3 - getting into the final stage of this cigar and it’s just not been enjoyable. Too many re-lights, too much puffing, I’m doing myself and the cigar a disservice. I decide to bail.

Honestly, have not had a D4 that I’ve really liked. They are a little too “in your face” for me, I don’t get the nuance that I get from other CC’s. Even other Partagas (shorts and Lusi) have been complex and flavorful, but the D4? Eh, not really a fan.

Overall: 77
