Montecristo Media Corona - OBM NOV 15 (McRW)

Had to pick a cigar based on the conditions here - 43 degrees, bit of wind, this called for something short and to the point. So I decided to reach for a Media Corona - a firecracker of a cigar, a gut-punch of Montecristo rolled into a 30 minute smoke.

 

 

Looks and construction have been great from this box, and this one was no exception. Clip the cap and find a draw right where I like it. Cold draw is not revealing much of what’s to come. Time to burn this bad boy.

 

 

Starts off a little harsh for me. A very ashy taste, it feels like it’s smoking hot right from the start. Has me worried since this is such a short cigar, it could only get worse from here. None of the classic Monte profile. Nothing like what I’ve gotten from most of the others in this box. But I forge on.

 

 

As I get through the first 1/2”, sipping this little plug of a cigar slowly, I’m now starting to get some Montecristo DNA. Seems to be settling in a bit with some of that cocoa powder and dark chocolate coming through especially if I retrohale.

 

 

Working my way through the middle of the cigar and it’s getting better as I smoke, thankfully. The ashiness and harshness has gone, and now it is full throttle in your face Montecristo. If smoking an Especial is like listening to a symphony, then smoking a Media Corona is like death metal! It is Montecristo x5, packed full of flavor in a 30-40 minute window. Everything is dialed up and intense.

 

 

Smoke these slow, take your time lighting it, and you will he rewarded. Overall I don’t love this vitola but it does have its place for a 30 minute smoke without wasting half of a cigar. This box has been pretty good to me, and if you like Montecristo these could fill a need for you.
