My wife brought me a beautiful humidor that she had custom made in Morocco. Unfortunately the cedar lining has a strong, pungent aroma. Consequently I have not used it other than for display. While the aroma has diminished somewhat over the past couple of years, it is still there. As my collection of cigars has expanded I am wondering if I can use the humidor if I put the boxes in either a zip lock or other sealed plastic bag (loose vacuum seal). Any thoughts or experiences most appreciated.

I'm far from an expert on the topic, but to apply some similarities between this and "seasoning" a wineador or cooler, the common tricks you'll hear people suggest are to air it out. Just leave it open for weeks. To put crumpled newspaper inside for a couple weeks, and/or a container of baking soda. All are suggested for getting rid of container smells. Might be worth a shot.
