Popular Post GWG Posted September 15, 2019 Popular Post Posted September 15, 2019 The initial greeting was met with a touch of cedar and a clean barnyard scent vice a musty basement. I personally like this gentle nose in a cigar as it usually smokes well. The construction was excellent, not to soft, not to hard just right. The cold draw was strong with the taste of dry cedar. Now it’s past noon so a good pairing was in order so I chose Kirk & Sweeney 23 yr. The tasting notes on the bottle were spot on, fruit , vanilla, and sherry and a nice toffee nose. So off we go with one of my favorite smokes. The lite had a quick bit of pepper spice, dry oak wood and hints of liquorice that danced in and out throughout the smoke. The first third settled into wood, sweet leather notes and the occasional liquorice. The rum seemed like a perfect match as it cleansed my taste buds and left me with a fresh pallet for the next draw. The vanilla and sherry went well with the sweet leather. The middle third continued with a clean burn and nice thick smoke. The leather got a bit more earthy with a bit of burned toast and created a nice mouthfeel with a little pepper on the tongue at exhale. Wishing this was a double corona as I would like it to last longer. As I moved through the center the flavor changed to chestnut and a vegatal taste like cooked peppers and onions done in olive oil. There are many cigars I would love to add to my collection but VR and sancho panza belicoso are on the top but difficult to find. They are some of my best smoking memories. The last third continued with the same flavors rolling off my tongue down to the last inch and a half. I started to get more pepper although minimal and eventually heat. I really hung on and was sorry to part with my friend. Unfortunately this box is almost done ?but more are aging , the 3 yrs were good to me . I would score it a 94. So great smoke, excellent rum and a beautiful day, who could ask for more. 5
