Bucky McSwensen Posted August 5, 2019 Posted August 5, 2019 Unknown box code and month but for sure from 16. First time trying these. Love hoyo de monterrey so I'm excited for this one. Starts off with heavy cedar and some subtle cream and coffee. Was expecting a heavier smoke but this is very light and perfect for the hot day. Transitions to a sweet tea flavor and a great after taste. Start to get more light wood with some vanilla and spices. Wood is not my favorite flavor but I'm enjoying it with my coffee and it is a remarkably good base flavor with the nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla. Compliments it all well. Tea not kicks back in but no sweetness at the midpoint. Very tannic, not quite bitter but you can tell it has some aging potential. First half was all smooth, now it's a bit rough and tumble. The final push gives me real rough edges and robust flavors. Reminds me of some good nc I've been dabbling with. The nub gets hot and then sweet tea and heavy cream kick in for the end. Not what I was expecting but a fun finish. This is a puzzler as to when it will be at its prime. Is it now? 1 year ago? 8 years? I've read a lot of reviews stating great young no aging potential or the complete opposite. I'll probably let my others sit for a while. This was a great smoke but not what I usually crave. An enjoyable experience that challenges my palette. Never boring, great flavors, but not my go to preference. I value this stick at 12 bucks Cost ratio: 1.08 Cuba shelf ratio: 1.16 1
