I got up this morning with a full day of crap to deal with. Looking over investments trying to figure out why my stocks were not   As I had hoped for during May. Had to take one of the cars in for a repair estimate, doctor appointment and so on. I Jan a 40 min window so I went outside and lit up a siglo 1 from a recent purchase. Wow what a stick. Sweet notes of cream, coffee, nuts, and hay. Perfect nicotine kick about halfway through. great construction. The perfect 40 min smoke. It is getting to the point where I smoke at least 2 Cohibas per day and reaching for one has become an automatic reaction. I have many other CCs that I enjoy but in all honestly, I enjoy the Cohibas more than the others. In trying to figure out why here's what I have come up with. The Cohibas as of late mostly siglos, are not over spiced with pepper notes. Many others, even my preferred Montes have too much on the pepper side that this overpowers the other flavors. Not to say that I don't enjoy others in with the mix but the Cohiba nearly always comes out on top. Of course it figures that I would prefer the most expensive and hard to find stick commonly sold. I certainly hope that this excellent run continues. Kudos to Rob for supplying some of the greatest sticks on the planet

Well said!  I've not seen a lot of pepper in Montecristo, but I'm not touching anything more recent than '14 or '15, of late.

I completely agree about the mix of flavors which make Cohiba so attractive.  I'm reminded of one of the video reviews from years ago, in which Rob said that a great cigar commands to be smoked at its own pace.  I get that sense quite often from Cohibas (as well as really great examples from other marcas).  I naturally pay attention to the cigar, and I naturally slow down into "slow and deep appreciation" gear.  It's a virtuous cycle!

The sweet hay / lemongrass is so unique to Cohiba. To me, that is the difference between cohiba and all others. Don't get me wrong, each marca has their own great qualities, but when I want that sweet hay smell and flavor, it's a Cohiba.

^^^ I didn't mean for that to sound like a commercial lol

I have been accused of such on several occasions?

Your are exactly right, The longer the Montes rest the more they mellow and lose some of the peppery edge. Unfortunately most of my cigars are young at this point and I need stuff that smokes great right of the box particulary given the scarcity of really great Cohibas. The HDM Epicure 2s of previous years also had that seeet creamy tast right off the bat but sadly they have gone south except for a few examples from this site

Spot on dicko, I have a variety that I smoke, Partagas, Monte, Por Larranaga ,H Upmann, R & J's, even Quintero's (which aren't bad at all I might add)

All are good, average, excellent, what ever.. But it's not until I light up a coro or one of the few siglo VI's I have left, that I think wow!!

I feel like i'm blowing my money on all the others..Why don't I just buy Cohiba all the time..

AHHH the cost...

Lack of pepper.. my favorite flavor / sensation in cigars are exactly why I don't buy many Cohibas. I enjoy them but it's the spicier cigars I seek.
