wabashcr Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Anyone else watching? Slow day in the office so I've had the stream on. Really enjoyed the morning round obviously. Apparently nobody has swept the first morning and then gone on to lose the cup, but there's so much more golf to play. And after the European comeback at Medinah in 2012, no doubt the US can't feel too comfortable yet. Still, couldn't have gone any better. I figured the US would be competitive on American soil, but still figured Europe would retain. Should be a thrilling competition. 2
hungrylikawolf Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 What a morning. I can't help but question not putting Rickie and or Phil back out there after how their morning match finished. Maybe Phil needs the rest with all the golf still to come Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
raymond5737 Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 They are playing right here in my backyard, but it is like they are playing on another planet. The traffic is backed up for a mile, security everywhere and the news people saying that there will be some (400,000) people trying to go this year and suggesting you watch from home. So that is exactly what my friends and I will do tonight with cigars, drinks and salmon on the grill.
wabashcr Posted September 30, 2016 Author Posted September 30, 2016 Looks like Europe will probably win 3 of the 4 afternoon 4 ball matches, with the US taking the other and a 5-3 lead into Saturday. I'd love to experience a Ryder Cup, but I can't imagine it's much fun in that big of a crowd with only 8 or 16 balls in play on the first two days. I went to the BMW Championship when it was here a few weeks ago, and even the crowds for that were thick. But at least there was more going on around the course.

I went to the Ryder Cup when it was in Louisville. While I had fun, I probably wouldn't go again. Just not enough golfers out there for the amount of spectators. Much better watched on tv. wabashcr Posted October 2, 2016 Author Posted October 2, 2016 Poor Lee Westwood. Cheering for the Americans of course, but there are a lot on the European side I genuinely like. I've always liked Westwood. Those two putts he missed on 17/18 last night were painful to watch. Utter choke job. Also not thrilled that one of the more unlikable players on tour, Patrick Reed, has been by far the best American thus far. Americans have a 3 point lead heading into the singles today, but it was 4 points 4 years ago at Medinah. Should be a thrilling day of golf. Haven't looked at the pairings yet, but with so much quality on both sides, and the course set up to be attacked, the drama should be through the roof. 2
sam Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 The Ryder Cup was a fabulous event. The golf, weather and crowd were terrific. And cigar smoking was allowed! I got one in on both Friday and Sunday. --- sam 1
Smoke6 Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I was there on Friday as well. Crowds were huge! Took an hour to park and que up before you even saw the bus to take you to the course. Hung out at 15 and 16 all day. How about the 'Green Shirts' who were marking your pass with a warning if they saw you take a picture within 100 yards of a player? But, you could heckle and lob lewd comments at WAGs and players and no action at all unless the player was offended. I guess the PGA is only concerned with perhaps YOU making a buck off a picture and them not getting anything, its the only logic I could surmise. I can scratch that one off the bucket list, but its far more enjoyable, for me at least, to view from the confines of my living room.
LGC Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I think golf has pretty much become like any other main stream sport... strictly a business. I've only been to 1 tournament, but I'm not sure if I'll pursue any others. I'd rather watch from my patio with food, booze, and aged cigars.
