rmill3r Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 I actually already posted this in the FOH Daily Smoke thread but figured I would give it a shot for this review competition (hopefully just in time). Bolivar Petit Corona ULA JUL 15 I recently got this box from our host. It's only been in my humidor for about a week, so normally I would want them to rest longer but I really can't keep my hands off BPC. For the first out of the box, I grabbed the gnarliest one I could find off the top. There were two unsavory looking tears in the wrapper and it was quite underfilled. It was very spongey and the consistency of the pack was spotty at best. Still...hopes were high when I lit it slowly with a few small matches alongside an excellent cafe con leche I had made using some locally roasted beans. FIRST THIRD This Bolivar started out just how most all of them start out for me - with a lot of chewy smoke and a savory flavor profile. I got lots of nuts, milk coffee, and roasted tobacco off of the beginning of this cigar. It wasn't a mind blowing start, but it was exactly what I've come to love and expect from it. SECOND THIRD It doesn't take long but things start to change for the (even) better. There's a very distinct fruity twang in the middle. It's not spicy or harsh, but fruity, tangy, yet still a bit nutty. It's an odd combination, but I imagine a bowl of walnuts, pecans, roasted almonds alongside dried blood orange, apricots and pears. It's a very cool sensation and honestly something I don't usually get out of the BPC. FINAL THIRD The last third of this cigar stays true to the second third. It's a nice blend of roasted nuts and fruit. Construction-wise, the cigar is extra spongey like I expected it to be and it burned extra hot toward the end which wasn't too bad except for the fact that the last 2-3 draws were a bit harsh, hot and bitter. I was nearly nubbing the thing anyway though. The tears in the wrapper weren't holding together very well either, but it wasn't entirely detrimental. CONCLUSION I really don't think I can sing the praises of BPC enough. At one point, it delivers absolutely everything I love and expect from a cigar - a true "go to" or "standard" - and at another point, it surprises me in unique and showstopper ways. Even with the tears and poor construction on this particular cigar, it still delivered an experience worthy of my weekend morning. Don't judge a cigar by it's wrapper.
