spicycorona Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 The Dupont maxijet is dead. It lasted 4 or so years of hard use so can't really complain. But I want to try something new. I came across this Prometheus and was intrigued by the flint ignition. Ignition wasn't the problem on the Dupont. It was the flame adjustment valve wearing out like every other jet lighter I've ever had. Curious if anyone has any experience with this lighter, info on the performance of the ignition system and how is it holding up overall? http://www.lightersdirect.com/Prometheus+Retro+Lighters.1358/Prometheus+Retro+Black+Lacquer+Lighter.12776.html?osCsid=d3952b72b0d9dd0a1d4f68e1e76f34f1
targa88 Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 I have no experience with this version of the Prometheus. However did have another model. Certainly not in the same category as the Dupont Maxijet. Both in terms of the overall quality of construction but also the flame. I would get another Maxijet
Joker Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Was gifted the Prometheus Retro lighter over 5 years ago and still going strong. Admittedly I only use it when going to herfs, as the slim size fits nicely in the pocket. No problem with ignition, and the single flame is more than adequate to handle thicker gauge cigars Only real issue is that there is no visible fuel gauge. On the rare occasion that it has run out of gas whilst at a herf, there are no shortages of lighters around. I have found it to be a reliable lighter, and would recommend it. Cheers Joker
Cigar Surgeon Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 My flint ignition Prometheus died after 9 months of use. I have to send it in to get it repaired / replaced and have been dragging my heels.

spicycorona Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 Thanks for the reply. I suspect the old Xtends were not made in China? The Maxijets are. Just a hunch but I don't think they are the same thing. The maxijet put up with a lot, including two trips through the laundry. Mechanically it never had an issue with anything but the slowly deteriorating flame adjustment screw, which happens on all of the jet lighters I owned, just much quicker on the cheap ones. Maybe I fiddled with it too much, I have heard people say that if you don't adjust it, it won't wear out.
