Popular Post ... Posted November 12, 2014 Popular Post Posted November 12, 2014 Thank you guys for that generous cigar prize offer. This review is for Claus, in support of his recent DC enligtenment This cigar comes from a nice 50 cab with a mildly oily rosado-ish wrapper. Construction seems spot-on with no hard or soft spot. One of my favorite cold aroma/draw cigar, it reminds me of dried figs and leather, with the cold draw exhibiting the same dried figs with added dried dates or molasses, with a light salt on the lips. The draw is a bit firm, as have been all the sticks out of this cab. Upon lighting, smoke output is voluminous, with the smoke itself being thick and creamy. I detect some hay and light leather, the retrohale exhibits dry cedar. The first third is a touch below medium, with flavors slowly building in intensity, the core being leather with a fruity tanginess to it. The smoke becomes wispier and my palate is getting gradually coated with oil. Foot smoke at this point is a key aromatic component of the experience; baked cookie is its dominant characteristic. Definitely a cigar to be enjoyed away from the wind In the second third, creaminess is gradually increasing with a cedar/leather core, with some sweet earth then a bit of roasted nuts in the finish. Foot smoke has shifted to a sweet earth aroma at this point. Overall flavor intensity has been building gradually up to the final third, with aroma nuances dancing on the palate. My palate is now fully coated in oil with a pleasant slight numbness. This last part sees the overall sweetness increasing. The core is sweet musty leather with some sunflower seed jumping in and out of the mix. At this point, I want to Ken it but I know slowing it down will optimize the flavors to come. Waves of candy caramel on cedar and dried pear, with occasional additions of raisin hit my palate and tongue. I detect a bit of peat with the cedar on the retrohale. As I go through the last third, the smoke is gradually thickening and the mouthfeel is quite creamy. Near the nub, additional flavors jump in and out, with some coffee grind, vanilla bean and butter caramel. I get a tingle on my upper gum with some sweet and creamy leather and I have to let go of the cigar as the smoke is getting hot. Ending body is a touch above medium. I had smoked half the cab last spring then hadn't touched it for about six months. Man oh man did these evolve in a short span of time! All in all, a blissfull 2 hours of pure enjoyment, paired with a coke zero with half a lemon squeezed in it. 93 points all day 5
