Prelight - Cohiba Behike 54

Box code - MIA discarded outer box :)

Nice looking cigar, slightly underfilled at the foot and overfilled toward the cap, one green blemish and visible seams toward the foot.

Preflight draw is perfect, with a slight resistance as I prefer.

Aroma at cold is beautiful with sweet notes of honey and a faint hint of oranges on the lips from the wrapper. Hints of fresh straw, cream and lightly roasted tobacco.

Matched with Dalmore Cigar Malt reserve.

First third

The initial 10mm was unusual for a Behike, with was a slight residual bitterness from the lighting but once warmed up moved into strong cream, Oatstraw and toasted tobacco flavours typical of Cohiba.

Burn was slightly uneven to start but corrected once through the underfilled portion

Retrohale produces oat-straw, cream and cashews...

Sweetness is developing as the stick progresses from cream and straw moving into more Demerara sugar with hints of honey.

Smoke production is excellent, thick but not cloying.

The Dalmore Cigar Malt is working it's magic, as a complete juxtaposition to the flavours of the Behike...resetting the palate nicely.

An unusual ever so slight low note on the palate, not quite bitter, but not the usual silken cream one would expect from a Behike either.

Second third

Medium bodied, the sweetness is integrating with the straw notes.

Nicely formed ash held on 10mm into the second third before dropping.

Flavour was definitely affected by inconsistent density/construction with the internal burn being hotter/faster in the underfilled portion.

Draw tightens up a little as it enters the overfilled portion where notes of shortbread and more Demerara sugar are prominent.

Final third

An integrated creamy earthiness developing with a slight dark chocolate and spice...Very pleasant Cedar woodiness with light leathery notes caressing the palate as it nears the end.

A dance of pepper on the tongue as I slide the band down.

Creaminess has gone now and evolved to bitter dark chocolate.

Finally hit its stride just as it finished...

Overview;

Not the finest example of a Behike...

Appearance 14/15

Construction 20/25

Smoke production 9/10

Flavour 24/30

Evolution 19/20

Total 86

Very good review, thanks.

Note: I suggest you to put the box code in the title as Rob asked for the draw. Just saying :)

Yeah, I couldn't find the box code on the lacquer box...realised it must have been on the outer cardboard cover, which I always bin.

...listed the box code as "MIA" missing in action ;)

Anyway was nice to have the encouragement to post a review...
