I love my various cigar caddies for the protection they provide during travel. But during my last two excursions, where I've used them for storage at my destinations, I've noticed that my cigars end up being damp. I don't use any humidification with these, as they're airtight, and should hold the humidity of the cigars inside.

I don't know for sure, but I'm thinking that the foam inserts are open cell foam, and may be contributing be this condition - maybe it's just the nature of the beast. The cigars were properly humidified when put in the cases before travel. I used to have a nice aluminum case with individual indents for each cigar in the cedar lining.

I didn't like that the cigars slid back and forth in the inserts though, so I gave it away.

Any similar (or different) experiences?

Same here. I use a 4 gar caddy for every day smokeing. Just picked up a 30 cigar leather case lined with cedar for my up comeing trip to Dominica Republic. Vacation... cant wait

Colt45.

Hope this doesnt break the rules, but cigarsolutions.com has really good, sturdy foam inserts. Not like the cheapo foam in the cigar caddy. These will make it so the gars dont slide round.

Also, maybe try to loosen the pressure knob so it is not airtighht. Just a suggestion..?

Speaking of travel humis ,I'm in the market for one now. I just have to take the time to do a little research. Suggestions would be helpful.

I use personally Cigar Caddy and Armoured Humidor Systems. Both are excellent and with a quick search online you can purchase them in the US cheaply and easily.

After thinking about this a bit more, I'm thinking of trying the bead sticks without

adding any water, to try and keep humidity down while traveling. Has anyone

tried this with their caddie / otterbox for a week or longer?

I did this over a recent 10 day trip. I have a 30ct and used two of the small tubes and everything worked out better than expected.

Best thing i ever bought was a 18 count Otterbox (not cigar caddy no need for the humidifier) but their normal otterbox And I purchased some foam inserts.

I noticed if I keep a boveda bag or fiente humipad. It keeps the cigars perfect..Not to moist..

Great for traveling and attending Herf's.

I also have a 2 count for when I am out and about town or at the casino's..

I use the otterbox one that holds 30 smokes. I also use the tubes without any water to keep the humidity just right. When I did not, the smokes were a little wet.

Also, think about the temperature change, if any, from one destination to another. That would have an impact on the humidity on the smokes in the case, especially if it is air tight.

I have a 15 count caddy. I just filled it with sawdust to keep the cigars from absorbing too much moisture.*

You know, like the Pop-Its® have around the 4th of July.

Never a dud, all my cigars go off with a bang!

*Disclaimer - I'm full of sh!t and just pulling your legs. ;-)

I have traveled all over the United States with mine and have never had a problem. I keep the foam pads in my cabinet humidor to keep them at the same RH as my cigars.

I use a tupperwere with a humidipak and a piece of foam (to prevent the cigars from moving around and break). I have two 2 or 3 of different sizes.

Cheap and has worked perfect for over many years and trips.:-)

I use Otterbox Cigar Caddy (s) and have been for years. The Amoured and Pelicans are great boxes as well but pricey and (IMHO, of course) think the Cigar Caddy is a little better quality for less $
