I am lucky enough to attend a University that has a government licensed trip to Cuba. I will going from March 1st to the 9th if anyone else is there we should meet for some cigars! I do have some questions though. Where should I go for custom rolls such as mons, hamlet, juanita, or any others that are worth it? Also, is there a shop that has all the RE produced or do they only sell the Cuba RE in Cuba? I am also looking for any advice for the trip, its entirety will be in Havana and I will be staying at the Hotel Palacio. Thanks guys!

Copy and paste from CA? Love the "salmon" background. lol3.gifLike I mentioned there, pick a custom from every roller you see and since you cant bring anything back, dont waste time with something you are not enjoying. Just smoke what you like from Conde, Partagas or RyJ. Infantes are the only RE you will find, and they are not so easy anymore.

Shlomo's advice above is solid.

Try the customs from Melia Cohiba.

Yes Shlomo it is haha, I figured I would get as many perspectives as possible and like I posted over there I am pretty sure I will be able to bring them back one way or another.

Lant, are you US or Canada? I went on a licensed trip through Miami and can give you info from my trip. Email me if you want.

What I remember from one of the older post, do not bring USD as the exchange rate is quite bad. The suggestions from other BOTLs was to exchange to Euro or Canadian Dollar if I remember right.

Officially approved State Department trips are becoming more and more common these days. It seems, at least from my view, that while they are becoming so more restrictive on some things (no longer can you bring back 100 USD worth of cigars for personal use...dont know when that ended, i've been out of the game for so long), it's much easier to actually go there now.

Basically if there is some sort of educational purpose in the itinerary, the State Department approves. Enjoy your smokes there, cause they wont let you bring any back in...lol

Well bringing them back into Canada will not be a problem( I will be flying out of Toronto). 50 per person so I can easily do 200 customs which is what I have my hopes set on.

I have some questions for some Canadian brothers if they could message me.

as far as i heard, you can only take 25 UNBANDED (custom rolled) cigars with you. hope someone can shed some light to this matter, as i'm also curious to know.

This should shed some light on the topic

I am sure there are ways around the import/export restictions but the book says 20 custom rolls is the max and I'd want to be 100% sure of getting through both ends of Customs before dropping serious cash of cigars that could be confiscated by either Cuban or Canadian (or American) Customs agents.
